Linatex or Latex for slingshots? Which one is better for slingshots and where did Linatex go?
“What is up with Linatex? Is it great? Is it lousy? And why don’t you sell it anymore?”
Great question. We love Linatex. Linatex is one of the best options out there for an extraordinarily durable slingshot band material. It is thick, it is chunky, and it can take an incredible beating. It is the best material we’ve ever used for shooting rocks.
However, there are some drawbacks. Linatex was originally made to line mining chutes and has never had the kind of consistency that you’d really like to see in a slingshot elastic. Even with some inconsistencies, it was still a fantastic material for shooting rocks and any other shooting style that required great durability.
However, in more recent years the formulation and maybe process was changed and Linatex is no longer an excellent choice for slingshot elastics. The cross-sectional variance is far more than it used to be and the consistency in production is just no longer acceptable. They also happened to raise the price a lot.
So, unfortunately, where we are now is that Linatex is no longer an option. It’s very expensive. It is not consistent at all. And we don’t offer it anymore. It is too bad, because Linatex had an extraordinary elongation, was super durable for shooting anything, and was absolutely perfect for the bug out bag. If you still have some kicking around, use it well.
