Is it OK to shoot smaller ammo out of this band set?
Any slingshot that you buy from SimpleShot (that comes with bands) comes with a band set design for 7/16 inch steel ammo. The question here is whether or not it’s OK to shoot smaller ammo out of this band set.
The answer is a little bit yes and a little bit no.
If you just drop smaller ammo into our stock handsets, it will work, sure. But there are problems. If you decide to shoot smaller ammo out of our stock band sets, without careful tuning, you will have far too much energy delivered from the band sets than the ammo can hold or absorb.
This results in a few things that you are not going to like. One, the length of life of your band so it will be significantly decreased. All that energy has to go somewhere, and that energy is going to mean your bands slam into your frame aggressively. Secondly, you may find significant hand slap, especially if you are shooting OTT.
If you do shoot lighter bands out of the 7/16 band set, you absolutely must to them appropriately to knock off some of the power. Shooting 3/8 inch ammo out of our 7/16 inch bands is perfectly acceptable. Just make sure you tune it accurately and you will have an extremely fast band set!
Shooting Amos smaller than 3/8 inch out of the 7/16 bandset will very likely decrease the life of the band set quite a bit. You are always always best matching your ammo to the band set!
